notorious by EmmaMount notorious by EmmaMount
20x30" oil on canvas
my tribute to Hitchcock's sophisticated ice cool blondes
i guess she's a combination of Grace Kelly, Tippi Hedren, Janet Leigh, Eva Marie Saint etc
complex, always beautiful, flawed, iconic and bewitching

i randomly picked a handbag from a fashion mag to use as reference to paint this one, and later found out it was the Alexander McQueen 'Novak' bag - spooky!

another wonderful painting. The detail/tones on the hand bag are so good. The woman looks clearly at a distance from the back wall---like the obvious 3D effect. Very fine work

try also one of Fassbinder's vamps - Margit Carstensen or Hanna Schygulla - they could be good models for you

no problem, you shouldn't have.. it's only me with a special interest in cinematography :D
and you should concentrate on your paintings, this is more important and you have a lot of talent at this :) (love the ones with the sneakers and shoes, too) ---> see this --> [link]

Very cool. Love the patterns in the backgrounds of this set of paintings. I tend to do wallpaper background, too. It adds interest without taking focus away from the figure. Great! The foreground/background relationship is interesting. Figure jumps out. Great expression. Kind of a "fuck you" look. She is confident, bold and says what she thinks. No one will tell her differently.

thanks!
i have seen and like your shadowy wallpapers, and how you have things stuck to them with sticky tape, it gives it lots of depth. i find my wallpaper patterns really make the image more 3D, and i try to make their skin quite pale in contrast to the busy pattern behind, its working so far.....
This girl's my favourite too so far, funny you saw NorthbyNorthwest yesterday, its my favourite Hitchcock
One of your pics has the plane from it in the background!

A slight shadow on the wallpaper would also make the foreground figure pop. But that might interfere with the style.

That handbag isn't painted with the same contrast and lighting as the rest of the figure, maybe the photo is bad, but nevertheless the handbag looks great, it's all super quality painting yau have here!

no, you got me!!
i left the handbag till last while i decided what colour to do it to compliment the rest of the painting
and then i really got into it as i was going along, putting in lots of light and dark to try and make it come to life.
then when i was finished i could totally see that that meant there's absolutely not enough shading and dark shadows in that dress now which looks too washed out:stupidme:
and i got lazy and announced it finished anyway!!!
there is more tone and shade in her chest/skin area but the flash washed that out, but you're dead right about the dress
but i get so impatient, my mind and my ideas are miles ahead of the brush, i just can't wait to get on to the next painting.....

thanks for checking me out, you must have about 1000 visitors/watchers, i love your talent and ideas

haha 'proper' -- screw that. I have no idea what I'm doing either  When I first picked up my paintbrushes and dabbed them in oil, my teacher was like "just do whatever because I don't have time for you" (our art program sucks, actually it's non-existant) and so ... I did that, and I'm scared to go to college because I'm sure EVERYTHING I do is so unorthodox (painting with paper towels more than brushes now, and I love using my entire hand to smudge things ;p thankfully acrylics aren't toxic / are water soluble)

haha! thankyou, but don't be catching flies because of me!

tom jones was ace!!! by the way
He had everyone in the pub dancing and laughing, and belted Delilah, Pussycat and all the rest out like he was going to take the roof off! just like the real thing. the party went with a real blast, mum was blown away. Especially when he got a few of her male guests up to perform to 'you can leave your hat on!' with him.
wasn't really prepared for seeing my dad and brother strip!:jawdrop:
and mum's mates were all throwing their knickers, and my 83yr old great aunt was up dancing and pinching Tom Jones bottom!:omg:

Tell me he did Thunderball....
